Free Agency Starts at Midnight; Rogers Not A Happy Camper
04 Mar 2010
Word is coming out about players around the league who have been tendered by their teams as Restricted Free Agents due to the upcoming uncapped season. One of those guys is Crappy Carlos Rogers.
According to the Washington Post:
“I hate it, man, that’s all I’m going to say. I really don’t want to say too much right now. But I don’t like it.”
“They know they got me for cheap. Of course, they’re going to use [the tender]. They’re going to use what they got to keep me here cheap. If you want me there, you could show me. Tendering me is not showing me.”
Honestly I don’t know what he’s so pissed about; the first-round tender that he got is probably at the high end of what ANY team would pay for his average cover skills and hands of stone. First of all, for as crappy as he’s played in his Pro career (all in Washington) he’s lucky to have made as much money as he’s already gotten. Dude was a top ten first-round pick! Second of all, if he’s good as he thinks he is, then another team will have no problem giving up a first-round draft pick for him and paying him what he “deserves”. And third of all (third of all?), I don’t think he realizes that the Redskins don’t really want him because he SUCKS! “f you want me there, you could show me. Tendering me is not showing me.” You’re right, ‘Los. Tendering you is a way of making sure that if the Raiders or some other team run by complete football idiots wants to actually sign you, that we get something in return as we hold the double-doors open for you and wave bye-bye at Redskins Park.
Seriously, Allen and Shanahan would LOVE for someone to make an offer for you, Sir Drops A Lot. That’s the whole reason that they tendered you.
Jason Campbell is the only other player offered a first-round tender, meaning that if he signs with another team, we get their first round pick in the 2011 draft. The Redskins also offered second-round tenders to Rocky McIntosh, Reed Doughty, Kedric Golston, Odd-Body Heyer, and Chris Wilson. I can’t see anyone even coming close to giving up a second rounder for any of those guys, so chances are that they will all remain Redskins for the 2010 season.
Unsigned Unrestricted Free Agents include Todd Yoder, The Red Snapper, Hunter the Punter, and Chaotic Funk Rabach. As of Thursday afternoon none of those guys have signed. If they don’t finalize a contract with Washington by midnight, they will be free to sign with any team they chose, with no compensation to the Redskins. We need to lock down all four of those guys before they get an offer they can’t refuse tomorrow (Remember when Derrick Dockery was expected to re-sign a few years ago, and then Buffalo up and offered him $20 million more than the Redskins did? You never know what another team is going to think your players are worth.).
The “interesting time” that Shanny alluded to last week is almost upon us. Who are the Redskins going to target in free agency? Who’s going to get that offer that makes Bruce Allen say “See ya. That’s too rich for my blood.”? Here comes the most exciting time of the year for Redskins Fans: Free Agency! Woo-Hoo!
Hail!
